New Single: "Slow Down" by Carmen McLean
Motivational Muses Review | by Matthew Pineda
Released on: July 1, 2020
Solo artist Carmen McLean presents their debut single “Slow Down,” a chilled pop song that captures a calm listening experience.
McLean’s use of soft and chilled strings with harmonic voice creates the feelings of ‘slowing down’ in a time where everything around the world is happening so fast. “And maybe one day when things are still this way we will breathe / And just slow down.” From soft, resonant guitar strings to the light, gentle drum and cymbal knocks, these elements are utilized to emphasize the chilled listening experience the track creates.
McLean’s focus on creating this safe space for listeners to reflect on and give their listeners helpful advice for when things in life are moving too fast: to pause, breathe, and slow down. They deliver the message in a consistent manner that ultimately establishes a very positive and reaffirming message to their listeners.
I enjoy the steady progression and overall minimalism on the track. I loved how the orchestral strings did not overpower the soft harmonies in the second half of the track, and complimented McLean’s voice very well. My favorite moment on the track was the end transition that slowed the track down with gentle guitar chords to fade everything out to a comfy conclusion.
